Easy Jamaican Jerk Seitan “Chicken”

How to Make
After you prepare your setian and other ingredients, you can begin to make the sauce.
In a small bowl or jar, combine cornstarch with a couple tbsp of water. Next, add in orange juice, maple syrup or agave, soy sauce, chili pepper, lime juice, and Jamaican Jerk seasoning.
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add in Crispy Seitan Bites, as well as the sauce. Make sure that every piece is coated.
Allow sauce to simmer in the pan and thicken for 1 to 2 minutes. At this point, you can choose to either add peppers and onions in or fry them separately. Once the peppers and onions have softened, it’s ready to serve!

Customizations
This recipe can be modified in countless different ways to best suit your preferences! If you don’t like the texture of seitan, you can swap it out for tofu, soy curls, or another vegan chicken alternative.
You can also really easily adjust the level of spiciness by adding in more or less chili peppers, or choosing a different type of pepper that fits the heat level you want.

Storage
Jamaican Jerk seitan lasts up to 5 days in the fridge and 3 months in the freezer. You can meal prep in for the entire work week!

Frequently Asked Questions
Seitan is naturally not something that can be made gluten-free, since the main component of it is literally gluten. However, you can absolutely make this sauce gluten-free by using tamari instead of soy sauce. The sauce can be used with tofu or soy curls for gluten-friendly options!
Definitely! I would recommend just storing the sauce separate from the seitan. Heat the two together in a pan for 5 minutes just before serving.
Yes, the flavours are there for sure. Seitan and chicken will always differ slightly in terms of taste and texture, but the two are certainly comparable.

Easy Jamaican Jerk Seitan “Chicken”
Ingredients
- 1 recipe Crispy Seitan Bites or store-bought seitan
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 125 mL orange juice
- 1.5 tbsp maple syrup or agave
- 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 thai chili pepper, seeded and finely chopped
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 tbsp Jamaican Jerk seasoning
- 1 bell peppers, sliced
- 1/2 red onion, sliced
- rice optional, for serving
- cilantro optional, for serving
Instructions
- Dissolve the cornstarch in 2-3 tbsp of water in a small bowl or glass. Then add in the orange juice, maple syrup or agave, soy sauce, chili pepper, lime juice, and Jamaican Jerk seasoning. Whisk well.
- Heat a frying pan to medium heat and then add in Crispy Seitan Bites. Pour sauce over and stir so that every piece is coated.
- Reduce heat to medium and allow the sauce to simmer and thicken for 1 to 2 minutes.
- At this step, you can either add the peppers and onions in or sautee them separately.
- Ready to serve over rice, in a lettuce wrap, in a tortilla, or however you'd like! Add cilantro for a finishing touch.
